Apologies for the lack of posts this week. I have been working on several large projects for my day job as well as a writing project that I hope to share with you all soon. I have also been preparing for the Idaho Republican Convention next week, where I will be a delegate.
I am looking forward to the Convention. In addition to being a delegate I am also privileged to sit on the Resolutions Committee, so I will have an opportunity to help shape what we as a party declare as our goals and intentions for the next two years. The Texas GOP set a high bar for basedness, but we will see what Idaho can do next week.
State Representative Dorothy Moon has announced a challenge to Tom Luna for leadership of the Idaho Republican Party. This race, along with the other campaigns for state officers, should make next week even more interesting. It will also provide a good barometer of whether the state party is moving to the right or if it still dominated by the establishment.
As Branden Durst was the first to point out, Moon and Luna are the same word, which is amusing. I will write more about this race in the next couple of days.
The clown show that is our federal government continues to disappoint, but it was briefly overshadowed this week by the United Kingdom. In the wake of numerous sex scandals, alleged fiscal malfeasance, and a general frustration with the way Brexit has been sabotaged, several dozen cabinet ministers resigned, essentially forcing Prime Minister Boris Johnson to announce his own resignation.
The Conservative Party will now vote for a new leader, who will likely take over as PM next fall. My friend Raheem Kassam wrote an article for Newsweek breaking down the likely contenders.
In more tragic news, former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan was assassinated late last night. The assailant apparently used a custom double barrel shotgun and shot Mr. Abe from just a few feet away. Little is known at this time about any motive the shooter had.
During his tenure as Prime Minister, Mr. Abe was a friend to the United States and to President Trump in particular. He opposed the expanding power of the Chinese Communist Party and worked for cooperation between East Asian republics. President Trump called his death “really bad news for the world” over on Truth Social, while leftist media in America called him divisive.
I hope corporate media disparages me when I go, because that means I will have done some good in the world.
It is a crazy and dangerous world out there. No matter what happens we should be thankful for the United States of America, and especially for a land such as Idaho where we can live in safety and freedom. Maintaining that safety and freedom is why we do what we do. It is the purpose of governments, of political parties, and of our Constitution. Let us be thankful, but vigilant.
Just discovered your substack Brian, very much enjoyed. I'm a recent(ish) arrival to Idaho and am pleased to discover a publication that can help get me up to speed with politics in your beautiful state. Looking forward to reading more.
Voting Tom Luna OUT....would be akin to dumping Doolittle. It's time for Dorothy Moon! It's time for the republican party in Idaho to censure the RINO representatives and stop rewarding voting patterns that do not represent the conservative values of this state.
