Everyone expects a red wave this November. Record inflation, record high gas prices, and America’s deteriorating position on the world stage have left the Biden regime and its party with little to campaign on. Smart Democrats are already distancing themselves from the erstwhile president and the extreme leftists surrounding him.
On the surface, Idaho is a very red state. Both houses of our legislature are dominated by the Republican Party by more than 80%. Many left-of-center activists choose to become part of the GOP and attempt to nudge it toward their positions rather than fight a hopeless battle in the Idaho Democratic Party.
While conservative Republicans are understandably miffed at this apparent chicanery, it is the rational thing to do. In my former home state of Washington, right-of-center activists would tactically vote for Democrats, hoping to push that party a little further right. So I don’t necessarily blame progressives for doing this, however it is up to us to fight it and keep the Republican Party as right-wing as possible.
All that said, some brave souls still proudly fly the donkey flag in Idaho. In my own District 14, Crystal Ivie and Shelley Brock are the Democratic Party candidates for the State House of Representatives. I will write more about these two ladies in detail in a later piece, but for now I want to highlight how they are avoiding the most controversial left-wing issues in order to present themselves to voters as pragmatic moderates.
If you peruse Ivie and Brock’s campaign websites you will not see much of anything about abortion, transgenderism, critical race theory, or the Biden regime’s numerous failed policies. Instead, you will find positions on water, education, and property taxes. This is a smart strategy, but I think it is ultimately doomed. Voters understand that even if a Democratic candidate has seemingly reasonable ideas about these important issues, that candidate inevitably comes with a lot of unwanted baggage.
To be a Democrat in 2022, this is what you support, whether explicitly or implicitly:
Our disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan that saw thirteen Marines killed
Massive transfers of cash to Ukraine with no accounting of where it went
Using ESG to turn corporations into engines of progressive activism
Exposing children to graphic and obscene content to convince them to identify as an LGBTQ+ identity
Allowing biological males to compete in women’s sports
Enforcing vaccine mandates in the military, government, and private sectors
Canceling the Keystone XL Pipeline
Draining our Strategic Petroleum Reserve while selling oil to China
Legalizing all drugs, not just marijuana
Allowing and even encouraging homelessness
Skyrocketing crime, while prosecuting anyone who defends himself
Abortion up until the moment of birth
Demonizing and defunding local police
Turning a blind eye while the president’s son breaks every law on the books
Using the FBI to raid the home of the former (and perhaps future) Republican president
Redefining words - woman, recession, inflation, raid - in a way that would make George Orwell blush
Ignoring the obvious mental decline of Joe Biden and pretending he is the leader of the free world
Joe Biden is emblematic of the modern Democratic Party. He has no idea what he is doing, his strings are being pulled by amoral political activists who do not have America’s best interests in mind, and his approval rating is below 30%. Imagine how low it would be if we had an honest media, rather than the publishing arm of the Democratic Party itself.
Don’t be fooled. Even if you hear a Democrat candidate seemingly making sense on one issue or another, remember the baggage they carry. Your local Democrat might avoid issues such as abortion or groomer schools, but they will surely be a reliable vote for those evils if they are elected.
Imagine how extreme, how left-wing, someone must be to run as a Democrat in Idaho. Many of us grow frustrated with Republicans who do not grasp the precarious position our country is in. Democrats want to hit the gas and drive us off the cliff.
Voting Libertarian or Constitution might feel nice, but it accomplishes nothing. Voting Democrat is like pouring poison into the water supply. The Republican Party is not perfect, by any means, but it is still the most effective forum for political victories in Idaho. Let’s keep Idaho red!
Why should we support Republicans if they continually just "lose, slowly, with grace"? The IDGOP seems to be overwhelmingly afraid of America First policies because of the supposed division it causes. I am not sure Dorothy Moon has enough political sway as IDGOP chair to meaningfully change the direction of the party.
How will we get the GOP to actually listen to us when it feels like they are extorting us? They need to know if they aren't going to give us the candidates we want or the policies we want.... they won't get our vote. I'm not sold on voting R down the ticket because I'm tired of being extorted.
Brian, who do you support for Governor this coming election?
