The election is over. This campaign, which occupied so much time and energy of those of us plugged in to politics is done. Some good people won, and some good people lost. Now we can move on to the next phase of our ongoing work to expand the cause of liberty in our state and in our country.
If my own posting has been slightly slowed down it is because my life has been turned upside down over the course of the last month. We unexpectedly had to move, and we decided to do whatever it took to remain in Eagle. I feel like I am just starting to participate in this community and I want to put down long term roots. We decided to buy a house. I was negotiating the last minute details of the deal during breaks on Election Day, we closed Wednesday, and have been moving ever since. We just finished moving the last of our stuff yesterday, so I hope to get back to a regular posting schedule very soon.
I obviously have not been completely checked out. I took a break from moving furniture last week to join Dr. Daniel Bobinski and Josh Gibbons for Keep the Republic on 94.1 The Voice. We had a fun conversation about the election results in Idaho and what they mean for the liberty movement. You can listen to the half-hour discussion here.
Yesterday afternoon I took another break, this time to record episode three of What’s Happening Gem State. I have really enjoyed making these video podcasts at Josh Gibbons’ studio - he has much nicer equipment than my $30 webcam and $25 USB microphone. I have learned a lot about the process of video editing, and episode two was miles better than episode one, at least from a production standpoint. I think this week’s edition will be the best yet.
I hope you find this new endeavor interesting and informative. If you enjoy it, please share - it’s a new show so it needs help getting off the ground. If you are interested in sponsoring an episode, you can contact me directly at brian.almon@proton.me.
While you wait for the new episode, check out the one from last week. I recorded it prior to the election, so I decided to talk more broadly about the idea of liberty in America rather than specific issues that would be obsolete by the time anyone watched it.
There will be no shortage of issues to discuss as we head into the holiday season. The new session will be ramping up, local issues in Eagle and Ada County will continue to percolate, and I already have three or four drafts of new posts waiting to be finished. I still need to talk about ESG and how it fits into the Great Reset, and there are dozens of great podcasts and essays I’ve consumed in the past few weeks that have given me a lot to think about.
I did not have time to make any special recognition of Veteran’s Day this year, which is a shame. I believe it is important to honor those who put on the uniform and sacrificed their time, their energy, and even their lives for our country. In lieu of a new tribute, I offer my Veteran’s Day livestream from last year, where I look at poetry - ancient and modern - that describes war and the duty of a soldier.
With that I bid you a pleasant week. Stay warm, stay safe, and stay informed. I appreciate everyone who reads and shares my work, subscribes to this publication, and most especially those who support me financially. Thank you.
