What a week! Yesterday, the House of Representatives voted to vacate the Speaker’s chair for the first time in history. Was this a good thing? A bad thing? We will have to wait and see. It was fascinating watching the debate before the vote, because it perfectly exemplified what I wrote yesterday about managers versus statesmen. A majority of Republicans were perfectly happy with the job that Kevin McCarthy had done because the idea of radical change was completely outside their imagination.
In any case, I recorded a short video with my thoughts on the process:
I haven’t watched it yet, but I’m looking forward to hearing Tim Pool and the gang talk about the vote yesterday with Lara Trump:
Next, if you don’t follow American Moment then you’re missing out. They work to place great conservatives as staff for congressmen and government bureaucrats. I have written before about how important it is to not abandon the field of government to the left, so I’m pleased to see what they are doing.
American Moment publishes a weekly podcast called Moment of Truth where they interview various figures about policy and how we can change our country. You might remember their talk with Soliciter General Theo Wold last year. Last week they spoke with Idaho’s own Pastor Douglas Wilson of Christ Church in Moscow, and it is very much worth your time:
Dustin Hurst and Greg Pruett spoke with an anti-ranked choice voting activist on their Freedom Bros podcast last week. This pernicious issue is threatening Idaho now, and their talk lays out why it is so dangerous:
On a lighter note, my sons have been listening to Johnny Horton quite a bit lately. Even though he tragically died in 1960, I grew up listening to his music and have enjoyed sharing it with my children as well. It was therefore interesting to read this Substack article about how conservatives need more Johnny Hortons making good popular music:
They don’t make them like this anymore, do they?
Finally, on an even lighter note, I enjoyed this conversation between Australian YouTuber and medieval expert Shad Brooks and the historian for the Lotus Eaters Podcast Beau Dade about the great castles of history. It’s a fun way to spend an hour of your day.
