It’s been a cold week! Since moving to Idaho, it seems like each year there is a moment where the dial flips from summer to winter, usually in mid to late October. That switched flipped a few days ago, and I put away my shorts and got out my wool coat.
I hope you’ve all been staying warm! In case you missed it, check out my interview with the new Ada County GOP chairman Thad Butterworth. He talks about his experience, why he decided to step up, and his vision for the Republican Party moving forward:
Check out this clip from one of the recent presidential primary debates. Former Vice President Mike Pence, who has since suspended his campaign, and Vivek Ramaswamy had very different views about the state of American society. Pence, a Boomer, retreated to Reagan-era slogans, claiming that it’s still “morning in America,” while Ramaswamy, a Millennial, said no it’s not, we’re facing a severe crisis. I agree with Ramaswamy, and I think this explains a lot of the generational disconnects on the right. I’ll probably do a whole article or maybe a livestream going deeper into this issue. For now, watch the clip for yourself:
Michael Malice recently interviewed Tina Descovich, one of the founders of Moms for Liberty. Some folks in Nez Perce County have started an Idaho chapter, but I sense this is just the beginning. The whole interview is worth your time:
In my research on the history of the Middle East I came across this interesting video counting exactly how long each nation and each religion have controlled the city of Jerusalem. It was a fascinating look at one of the most fought over pieces of property in the history of the world. (He uses CE and BCE rather than AD and BC, which is a big annoyance for me, but it’s still worth watching.)
For those of you just joining me recently, I started this platform in January of 2022 because I felt I had some ideas to offer the discourse, and in doing so I’ve been presented with opportunities to take a greater role in shaping that discourse. Today I am attempting to see if I can go full time as an independent journalist and analyst. Your $9.99 per month helps me toward that goal — for you it’s perhaps one cup of coffee a week, but it means the world to me. Thank you to everyone who has supported me thus far — I really appreciate it!
In addition to exclusives and early access to articles, podcasts, and videos, I’m looking for other ways to show my appreciation for paid subscribers. Do you like stickers? I spent a few minutes mocking this up in VistaPrint, what do you think?
In any case, I want to remind everyone that there is more to Substack than just posts. You can see Notes that I occasionally post, little snippets that are too small for a full post, as well as Chat, where I can start discussions on various topics and where you can interact with other subscribers. The easiest way to access all its features is to download the app for either iPhone or Android.
By the way, I went ahead and unlocked last week’s article on the lack of balance at the Idaho Policy Forum, which was advertised as a way to create dialogue in polarizing times. I like the idea of dialogue, but you’re doing students a disservice if you’re still keeping certain views locked out. Click here to read the whole thing!
Let me know what else you would like to see out of this publication. Being independent means I work for you, and so if there’s something else I can provide then let me know.
