Edit: Christy Zito’s website is live!
Last Thursday, former State Senator Christy Zito announced that she will be running for her old seat in 2024. I wholeheartedly endorse this campaign.
I had the pleasure of meeting Sen. Zito last year during the special session, which was her final action in the Legislature. She was the only member of the Senate to speak out against the governor’s combined tax refund and education appropriation bill. This was no surprise, as she has long been the sole voice for conservative values in that chamber.
Zito declined to run again in 2022, instead taking over as political director of the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance. Redistricting had already moved her from LD23 to LD8, as Elmore County was combined with Valley, Boise, and Custer Counties to form a large new rural district.
Despite her absence, the Senate was much improved this year, going from one conservative stalwart to at least ten. For a body with 35 members, that is quite significant, but the work is not yet done.
Zito’s replacement in the Senate is Geoff Schroeder, an outspoken atheist who votes like a Democrat. He voted:
For H24, the governor’s Launch Grant handout to big businesses
Against H71, which protects children from irreversible transgender drugs and surgeries
Against H228, which defined the word abstinence
Against H314, which would prevent children from accessing obscene materials in schools and libraries
Against S1038, the big ESA bill, and also S1161, a watered-down education choice bill
For nearly every single spending bill, no matter how high
Schroeder isn’t merely an atheist, he proudly wears it as a badge of honor. At the very least this puts him at serious odds with his constituents in the rural 8th Legislative District. Christy Zito, on the other hand, is outspoken about her faith.
Christy Zito belongs in the Senate. Rather than being the lone conservative voice in a sea of feckless moderates, she will join a caucus of freedom-loving patriots in the 2025 session with the power to advance bold ideas. She is the perfect candidate to oust the awful Geoff Schroeder and make the Idaho Senate even greater than it is today.
I wholeheartedly endorse Christy Zito for Senate in Legislative District 8.
Thank you, Brian, for your beautiful endorsement.
Thank you so much, Brian, for endorsing Christy Zito!
District 8 currently has three very painful representatives. Anything you can do to encourage and then endorse good opponents -- in addition to Zito for Senate -- would make District 8 so happy! Current District 8 "Republican" representatives are as follows, with IACI (https://www.iaci.org/scorecard/#/) and IFF scores (Source: 2023 Idaho Freedom Index brochure) provided:
Rep. Blanksma, Megan | IACI: 89 | IFF: D- (62.4% freedom), F (8.3% spending) C- (72.1% education)
Rep. Bundy, Matthew | IACI: 100 | IFF: F (48.1% freedom), F (8.9% spending), F (39.5% education)
Sen. Schroeder, Geoff | IACI: 100 | IFF: F (40.7% freedom), F (6.1% spending), F (44.4% education)
