I applaud 👏 and thank 🙏 Mr. Labrador! I hope we will see many more such decisions on the side of liberty and law in Idaho. Labrador will be an Attorney General who stands for the rule of law and, most important, the Constitution. We are so incredibly lucky he was elected Attorney General of Idaho. After Labrador serves as many terms as possible, he will make a terrific Idaho governor.
According to a report I read from Diego Rodgriguez, however, “Meridian Mayor Robert Simison and Meridian Police Chief Tracy Basterrechea are denouncing A.G. Labrador’s decision as “political” and “abhorrent.”
Per Rodriguez, Simison stated, "I support the people’s right to assemble for peaceful protest, but that right does not include ignoring lawful orders or being free from the legal ramifications of those actions.”
I do not have firsthand knowledge of their response, but if true, we have our work cut out for us. According to the Rodriguez:
“...the order was not lawful. … if Sarah was actually arrested for disobeying an order, then her charge would have been “disobeying a lawful order.” But her charge was “trespassing.”
Rodriguez suggested one remedy that I fully support:
[He calls] upon the Legislature of Idaho to pass a law to require all police officers, politicians, and bureaucrats who have any power to disrupt the lives of the citizenry, to pass the 8th grade exam on the Constitution or lose their positions immediately.
The language in Diego Rodriguez’s article is harsh and incendiary. I do not agree with his approach. However, I cannot disagree with his conclusion that we must not let tyranny stand.
Brian, Thank you for starting the new year with a positive piece. I am delighted to read that Mr. Labrador is also starting the year with some "positive" legal moves, may he continue. With regard to the paragraph illuminating the current mix on the Idaho Supreme Court, it must be regarded as a cautionary tale! The fact that we are 1 justice away from a "lame duck" court should be enough to drive the red voters of Idaho to the polls. The fact that only 32% of registered voters came out for the midterms does not bode well for an ongoing Red Idaho. The left are as diligent as termites, nibbling away 24/7 until the house caves in.
Thank you!
Yes in deed. Right on!
