The outrage of the pro-abortion left, which is always simmering, reached a new pitch earlier this month when a draft opinion leaked that showed the Supreme Court was preparing to overturn Roe v. Wade. This morning, pro-abortion activists crowded the Capitol steps in Boise to voice their anger at those of us who would dare curtail their unholy sacrament.
You might call that rhetoric over-the-top, but don’t take my word for it:
There was another sign that said “If men could get abortions, it would be a sacrament.” Obviously they have not coordinated on their messaging. Besides, the modern left cannot even define a man or a woman. Many of their signs used the same rhetoric about protecting women’s health and about how men should have no say regarding this issue, yet one of the speakers (an abortion provider) was very careful to use the phrase pregnant people rather than women or mothers.
The rhetoric of the pro-abortion crowd is confused and contradictory, because their ideology is not based in reality. They convince themselves that aborting a pregnancy is just a simple medical procedure that should be uncontroversial, and that anyone who disagrees is some misogynistic white male who wants to control women’s bodies.
One of the speakers, Rep. Lauren Necochea (one of the few Democrats in the Idaho State Legislature), told a story about her great-grandmother, whom she had never met. Ms. Necochea explained that her ancestor was widowed at the age of 25 and had three children to care for, and so married a man who could provide for them who turned out to be abusive. When she became pregnant, she underwent an illegal abortion to kill her husband’s baby, and the resulting infection killed her as well. Ms. Necochea completed the heartrending story by saying that three children were now orphaned.
They do not admit the connection between the unborn child and the visible child. They want us to sympathize with the three orphaned children while cheering the horrific destruction of the fourth. Many of their rhetorical contradictions stem from a refusal to admit they advocate for the murder of innocent human beings.
However, some abortion activists have no problem with what they support. One speaker said, “I propose we use the power of the word: say abortion!” The idea of words having power is a dark mirror of Christianity, which recognizes the power of the Word of God, in the sense both of Scripture and of Jesus Christ Himself. In fact, a lot of pro-abortion rhetoric is an unholy reflection of Christian liturgy. Consider the words of our Lord on the night He was betrayed: “This is my body, which is broken for you.” Now consider the incantations of the abortion mongers: “This is my body, I can choose what I want.” The sign saying abortion is sacred was the most honest one there.
I noticed many of the speakers appropriating conservative vernacular as they danced around the issue. I heard them refer to abortion rights as freedom, traditional values, bodily autonomy, and that abortion providers were angels. There is no reason to run down the litany of outright falsehoods and fallacies - their ignorance about gun regulations, the contradiction of demanding bodily autonomy after two years of demanding we all take experimental shots, the lie that poor women abort at a higher rate than wealthy women, and how they use their living children as props to support their right to murder others - because we know they do not argue in good faith, and we know there can be no compromise with people who want the unfettered right to kill the unborn.
Theirs is a culture of death. Our pagan ancestors offered their children as sacrifices to demonic idols in the hopes of guaranteeing safety and prosperity, while feminists today offer their unborn to the gods of materialism. They demand abortion because the idea of birthing and raising a child cramps their cosmopolitan style. Their unborn child must die so their hopes and dreams can live. It is a selfish, demonic ideology.
But there is good news.
The crowd of people I saw at the Capitol this morning were loud and angry, but their shouts were not those of a movement on the precipice of victory. No, these were the last desperate shrieks of a dying movement that worships death. Never forget that we are winning!
Never assume victory. Extreme anger equals extreme motivation. The fact is we are about to enter the battle of our lifetime defending the gains we’re expecting soon from the Supreme Court. It will be ugly and vicious. Buckle up.
Brian, I am in awe of your bravery to enter into this abyss. I, As a male (yes male) member of the Boomer gen, have been repeatedly fed into the woodchipper over this very subject. Let me brag just a bit: My wife and I have been married 37 years.. We have 4 female daughters, (I feel that I have to properly identify them these days,). 3 of them with children and no abortions among them! No, they are not overall wearing homeschoolers, although several do homeschool. 3 of them successful, married, 1single and very successful 10 grand kids and blah, blah, blah. All that to say that from my ancient perspective wandering through an abortion ralley or for that matter having a "discussion" with an abortion advocate is like circling the bowl. There is only one ultimate outcome. I don't understand why it invariably begins with "no man should have a say regarding this issue" when they would not have an abortion issue without the introduction of male anatomy or bodily fluid. I will make a giant assumption that most abortion minded women usually do not enter the difficult world of in-vitro fertilization and then abort, so that introduction of fluid usually is delivered by a live male participant. Assuming he is participating willingly and the intended outcome of this particular interaction is two-fold: pleasure/pregnancy. It would seem then that something so particularly designed to utilize a male and female to accomplish a dual stated purpose, there should be by all logic that both the male and female should have equal "say" in the matter.
This is just the opinion of one closer to the exit who has great empathy for the ones who have farther to travel.
God Speed!
